MeioSys
Adv. Studio - Second Year M. Arch - Instructor: Jason Kelly Johnson
In collaboration with: Andrew Justin Villanueva
100 years into the future, the San Francisco Bay Bridge is completely taken over with self-replicating biosynthetic building components called Node Cells. Two friends, a scientist and a dockworker, who work for MeioSys, the factory that produces these Nodes, are fishing out on the waters of the Bay. Looking back at the structure, they wonder how it could’ve gotten this way, remembering only fragments of what the bridge once was and contemplating its entanglements with nature, humanity and Artificial Intelligence.
MeioSys was a work of Speculative Fiction for Jason Kelly Johnson’s Adv. Studio, ‘Cloud Cities’, which explored what might become of outmoded infrastructure in the future with the rapid advancement of robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and new forms of Urbanism in changing technological landscapes.
